NSLI-Y Alumni Association Photo Contest
International Education Week 2013

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. In celebration of NSLI-Y and its lifelong impact, NSLI-Y encourages alumni to participate in the NSLI-Y Alumni Association Photo Contest. Submit up to two photos from your NSLI-Y program in any of the following categories:

    Learning – Representing experiences in language learning and linguistic skills development

    Growth- Highlighting experiences that contributed to career exploration or professional growth

    Connections – Showcasing connections with host families, participants or alumni of NSLI-Y and other Department of State-sponsored programs

    Service – Illustrating community service and its role in promoting global and mutual understanding


By submitting a photo, participants give permission to NSLI-Y and American Councils to use the photograph on public websites, social media, and promotional materials. To submit a photo, users must create an account with  their name and email address.

The deadline to submit photos has been extended to Monday, December 2, 2013.

Guidelines:

Contestants may submit up to two photos in any category (photos must be submitted separately) via this website only.

Each photo submission must include:

  1. Your name and NSLI-Y Program Information;
  2. Photographer's name;
  3. Title for the photograph; 
  4. Caption (35 words or less) describing the event or action in the photo;
  5. Names of individuals in the photo; and
  6. Brief statement of photographed individuals’ (other than NSLI-Y participants’) consent to use their image/likeness. (Images with host family members or host country students cannot be published without each individual's consent.)

Participant Requirements: 
Photo contestants must:
  1. Have completed all NSLI-Y program requirements including post-program reporting and post-program testing, if required for their program;
  2. Be in good standing with NSLI-Y;
  3. Have rights to the submitted photograph; and
  4. Give permission to NSLI-Y and American Councils to use the photograph on public websites, social media, and promotional materials.


Selection:

Winning entries will be:

  1. Selected based on photo quality, creativity, and adherence to the category description
    Learning, or experiences in language learning and linguistic skills development (ie. class with your immersion teacher, conversation practice with your host family)
    Growth, or experiences that contributed to career exploration or professional growth (ie. embassy visits or shadowing a local professional)
    Connections with host families, participants or alumni of NSLI-Y and other Department of State-sponsored programs (ie. cultural activities or excursions with fellow NSLI-Y students) 
    Service and its role in promoting global and mutual understanding (ie. a visit to an orphanage or a beach clean-up);
  2. Determined by a select cohort of NSLI-Y Alumni Representatives and NSLI-Y Staff;
  3. Published on the NSLI-Y website and NSLI-Y Facebook page; and
  4. Possibly published on American Councils’ and other NSLI-Y promotion materials.

Persons who submit winning entries will be notified via email and receive NSLI-Y materials.
